Finance Intern

Applied LifeSciences & Systems is a Start-Up bio-systems company focused on improving animal health and productivity in the poultry, livestock and aquaculture industries. The ALS-S system merges advance imaging systems, computer learning, microfluidics and automation to provide high-throughput system solutions to aforementioned industries.

The Associate Financial analyst and controller will provide financial planning services in support of the business and Series-B financing of the company. The desired candidate will develop detailed business models, prepare short-range and long-range financial projections and annual budgets, and provide financial analysis and key decision support to the CEO and VP of Finance, and other functional leaders of the company’s operations. This is a part-time position.

Knowledge and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in development and analysis of the forecast and budget processes
  • Consolidate monthly and quarterly results and prepare financial reports.
  • Prepare P&L statements and analyze month and variances, comparing results to budget and prior year
  • Build sophisticated business models for planning, performance measurement, and to drive sound decision making for store growth and acquisitions
  • Develop, maintain and distribute ad-hoc reports and financial models as needed
  • Track and report capital expenditures variances versus budget
  • Streamline systems to improve ability to analyze complex data and make recommendations
  • Increase productivity by developing automated reports, and coordinating information requirements
  • Clearly and concisely communicate financial information to non-financial mangers
  • Anticipate organization’s analytical needs and act proactively

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (Equivalent experience substitutable)
  • 2+ years of related professional experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to provide professional presentation support
  • Experience independently developing financial and operational models to support major business initiatives
  • Ability to import/organize/analyze large data sets from disparate sources
  • Exceptional analytical skill
  • Self-starter with ability to thrive working independently and in team environment

Preferred skills:

  • MBA
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • FP&A experience
  • CPA experience
