Principal Engineer, Machine Vision Systems 

Applied LifeSciences & Systems is a Start-Up bio-systems company focused on improving animal health and productivity in the poultry, livestock and aquaculture industries. The ALS-S system merges advance imaging systems, computer learning, microfluidics and automation to provide high-throughput system solutions to aforementioned industries.

The Principal Engineer, Machine Vision Systems role is a key technical position in a fast-paced, challenging, and positive work environment. Working with a variety of technologies, you will develop all aspects of our vision systems: concept, design, component selection, imaging software development, assembly and installation. Utilize expert vision inspection techniques and software applications and collaborate with experienced team members to overcome project obstacles.

Knowledge and Responsibilities:

  • Machine vision hardware integration and design – camera, lens, and lighting
  • Machine vision software / algorithm development & programming
  • Factory automation controls – design, integration, and programming
  • Machine vision smart cameras and/or PC based systems
  • Hardware integration and design – camera, lens, controls, and lighting
  • Software / algorithm development & programming
  • Factory automation technologies including PLCs and HMI
  • Robotics and motion control
  • Electrical power systems and I/O schematics (primarily low voltage control systems)
  • Hands-on electrical, mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Project management – project schedule and project budget, and supplier relations
  • Team Collaboration
  • Project communications, documentation & project time reporting

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

B.S. Engineering degree or higher with 10+ years of experience in:

  • Image processing experience and algorithm development
  • Familiarity with both control system design and image system code development
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical skillswith CAD experience
  • Robotics, mechatronics, machine learning, imaging technology
  • Project management, scheduling, and budget experience
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment on fast-track projects
  • Self-directed and forward thinking
  • Robust interpersonal, listening, questioning & communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong work ethic
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cross-functionally
  • Exhibits professional, ethical and socially responsible manner
  • Ability to properly balance cost, schedule and quality of the delivered project
  • Flexibility to perform various roles and responsibilities from day to day, ex. programming, project management, design, client interaction, etc.
  • Effectively prioritize workload to ensure deliverables are met for multiple projects simultaneously with varying scope
  • Mechanical design experience (a plus)
  • Customer service and/or Commercial skills (a plus)
